It's a community-wide effort to help you live a healthier lifestyle! It's pretty simple. No diet to sell, no gimmicks – just solid information and tools to help you make good choices for better health the old-fashioned way, through exercise and healthy eating! And it's free!
We are at a crisis point with our health in Spokane and the surrounding areas. The number of people who are obese and/or overweight here is the same as it is in other parts of the country…two-thirds of us! Yet we have fabulous, accessible facilities and outdoor areas to pursue physical activity. And we have dedicated people and agencies working hard on food and infrastructure issues, from affordable access to what our children eat in school. So, "why" Step UP and Go? Because we can change habits and systems toward better health and improved quality of life!
Challenges can help you stay motivated and encouraged to make healthy changes. Research shows that success in exercise and weight loss is tied to setting goals and having support in reaching those goals. Step UP and Go challenges are just that, a tool you can use on your own while still being part of a bigger community health effort!
At some point the race is over, the ballgame ends and the result is known. In other words, just like other events, Step UP and Go challenges have a beginning and an end-point to encourage you to get started and follow through to the end. Remember, while Step UP and Go challenges end or expire, they are just one piece of the never ending quest for lifetime health and wellness. That challenge never expires!
Absolutely! First, every minute of physical activity you get counts toward your lifetime health. But also it counts in the Step UP and Go tracking system as part of your "lifetime fitness record". Our system keeps track of all your exercise and there is no expiration on how long you keep trying different challenges and logging your physical activity. It's very cool to see how your efforts add up regardless of whether or not you completed a challenge!
Yes, yes, yes! We know that lifetime healthy weight management is a combination of exercise and proper eating habits, so we are working on creating a sound and fun diet challenge. Stay tuned, and in the meantime, enjoy our nutrition articles and information.
We plan to make this available in the future. Many of you like a prescribed challenge but we know others do better at setting their own goals. Step UP and Go is working to create a "set you own goal challenge".
